Staff and students are all smiles at Bedlington Academy today as they celebrate a bumper crop of A level exam results.

Across the board, students have achieved good results with many subjects performing significantly higher than last year, in particular science and a range of creative subjects.

Students’ hard work and dedication has paid off with many now securing further and higher education places, including at some of the UK’s top universities.

Results have continued to improve with an overall pass rate of 100% A-E being maintained from last year. Academic results have also continued to show significant success and improvement with 52% achieving an A*-B grade, up from last year’s achievement of 36% and significantly above the government target of 37%. The average grade attained at A level by Bedlington Academy students this year was a B, up from last year’s average of a C.

Some specific highlights from this year’s cohort includes Alex Greer’s fantastic results which saw him secure a place at Durham University to study Chemsitry, with A*, A, A grades in Biology, Chemistry and Maths respectively.

Abbie Mole, who also had offers from Edinburgh, Durham, Newcastle and York, achieved her grades of A, A, B in Biology, Chemistry and Maths with her place at Northumbria secured to study Biomedical Sciences.

In addition to these, Erin Robson is now in line to study Business Accounting at Newcastle University with her Grades of A, B and Distinction*, as well as James Clark who achieved two Distinctions and a Distinction* to secure his place at Newcastle University to study Computer Science.

All of our students have gone on to achieve grades which will allow them to progress in the next stage of their lives and be successful in their own individual destinations in terms of higher education and employment.

Joanna Lamb, Head of School at Bedlington Academy said:

“I am incredibly impressed with our students who have achieved success in their A levels this year. Their hard work has shone through and I am certain they will go on to do great things. I am also incredibly proud of our team of wonderful staff who consistently go above and beyond for our students to make sure that they all reach their potential and leave us knowing they have done their best.”

“Bedlington Academy began a programme of rapid improvements this year when we joined the North East Learning Trust, and the results are a testament to the vision of excellence that staff and students share”.
